Getting started in ten minutes

Create an organization, open a project, connect the first tenant.

4 min read

MigrateX moves a whole tenant — mail, files, shared mailboxes, sites and Teams — from one Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace tenant to another, from an on-premises Exchange Server into Microsoft 365, or between Zoho Mail and Google Workspace. This page gets you from nothing to a connected project. It takes about ten minutes and changes nothing in either tenant.

What you need

  • Two tenants: the one you are leaving (the source) and the one you are moving into (the target). The target can be brand new.
  • One administrator at each end: a Global Administrator for Microsoft 365, a super administrator for Google Workspace. They need no license and never share a password with MigrateX.
  • A MigrateX account: create an organization. It comes with 5 trial licenses, enough for a real pilot.

The route you will walk

Every project follows the same six steps. The project page shows them as a bar and always tells you which one you are on and what to do next.

Ten minutes, step by step

  1. Create your organizationGo to Create an organization. Your company name, your name, a work email and a password. You become the owner; you can invite operators and viewers later from Team.
  2. Turn on two-step sign-inUnder Settings → Two-step sign-in, scan the QR code with any authenticator app and save the recovery codes. This account can reach two tenants; protect it.
  3. Create a projectProjects → New project. Pick the route (Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace at each end, Exchange Server as the source, or Zoho Mail on either side of Google), name it, and tick what should travel. You can change the scope later.
  4. Connect the source tenantOn the project page, press Connect source tenant. Follow Connect a Microsoft 365 tenant, Connect a Google Workspace tenant, for a server the Exchange Server playbook, or Connect Zoho Mail.
  5. Connect the target tenantSame again for the tenant you are moving into. Use a private browser window so Microsoft doesn't sign you into the first tenant automatically.
  6. Run the assessmentAssessment → Run assessment. It reads both tenants, pairs people up and scores readiness. Nothing moves. Read Reading the assessment next.
Nothing happens until you press Migrate.Connecting and assessing are read-only. You can connect, look around, and disconnect with no trace in either tenant.
